About Experience Norfolk
Experience Norfolk is a personal project, a website I can share my passion and knowledge about Norfolk.
Made in Aylsham…
My family have lived in Aylsham for several generations. Prior to that, we originate from three Norfolk villages: Hevingham, Erpingham and Stibbard. There’s a tiny bit of added Welsh blood added in too just for good measure…
I grew up in Drabblegate just outside Aylsham and spent many years playing on the old railway line, north of the town.
The old railway station (Aylsham North) had been abandoned 20 years before I arrived; nature had long since taken over and the station was almost untraceable. It was a great place to explore and play.
The River Bure and the streams which meander through the lush, green countryside provided us with rich surroundings to enjoy. Occasionally we’d go cockling at Stiffkey or boating on the Norfolk Broads. Our favourite beach was at Overstrand and it’s still my favourite today; I often go down there with my girls.
The magnificent Blickling Hall is just outside Aylsham but I never visited the hall as a child. But I did spend many years as a teenager fishing along the wall on the lake (a beautiful spot to watch the day pass by). We used to spook each other at the pyramid shaped Mausoleum in the woods.
Recently, with the investment and splendid efforts of the National Trust, these special places in Norfolk now offer full facilities for families and are a rich experience for everyone.
Escape and return…
I left Norfolk at 21 to follow a career and enjoyed living in other locations including Sheffield, Bath, London and Spain but as often happens, my heart remained in Norfolk and I came back…
Norfolk became the perfect home for my family and over the past decade I’ve worked extensively with businesses promoting Norfolk. This is an amazing place, with something for everyone.
It’s wonderful that somewhere as special as Norfolk is only 2 hours journeying from London.
Experience Norfolk is my own way of communicating everything I know and love about this beautiful county. It’ll take some time but I’ll be filling it with as much helpful information, insider tips, stories, reviews and news as I can… and we’ll keep it real.
So please come back regularly and if you use social media, follow us using the links at the bottom of this page. We’d love to have you on board.
