Beach Retreat is next to Rectory Cottage in Overstrand and it’s another wonderful example of a typical fisherman’s cottage built around the turn of the 1800’s.
Ideally positioned in the centre of this historic Norfolk coastal village, you’re very close to the beach, shops, pubs and restaurants.
As Beach Retreat is next to Rectory Cottage – these two properties are a perfect choice for larger parties or two families holidaying together.
The cottage has a traditional brick and beach flint front courtyard and the front door opens into a small utility room which was once the tiny kitchen for this working cottage – a handy space for leaving hats, coats, buckets and spades; this is also where the cottage’s freezer and washer/dryer are kept.
A family size bathroom is off the hall and features twin wash basins, toilet, a large stainless steel radiator/towel hanger and modern shower over bath combination.
Beach Retreat’s comfortable lounge is very welcoming with two 3-seater Regency sofas and a cosy hearth rug. The lounge also features a 32 inch HD TV complete with ‘FreeSat’ and DVD player.
Although the cottage is fully centrally heated there’s a multi-fuel stove – even on a mild evening it might be hard to resist basking in the cosy fire’s warm glow.
From the lounge is the sunny, open plan, modern style kitchen that’s easily large enough to cater for 4 people. The fully fitted kitchen comes complete with a double oven, ceramic hob and overhead extractor hood, as well as modern kitchen appliances.
The modern décor and furnishings are continued to the contemporary family dining table and chairs.
Upstairs are the property’s two bedrooms; the first is attractively decorated with blue bamboo pattern bedding and elegant drape curtains over the traditional latch windows. It’s furnished with a King-size, Louis style bed and plenty of storage.
The second bedroom has an attractive blue and white colour scheme. It features comfortable twin beds that can be easily arranged into a super King-size bed, if needed.
This bedroom offers guests a lovely view out over the garden and has plenty of storage.
Friday changeover – out of main season, flexible start and finish days are possible.
Overstrand is an odd name for a village and visitors to this delightful north Norfolk village often ask if it means anything. Overstrand has its roots in the old Saxon tongue (and from there, in the even older Nordic) – where ‘strand’ was the word for the part of the beach left exposed after the tide had gone out.
Therefore the name ‘Overstrand’ seems to indicate that the place was up or above the strand – i.e. the place overlooking the beach at low tide.
Overstrand can trace its origins back to pre-Norman invasion times and it’s mentioned in the Domesday Book.
Its heyday was during the late Victorian to Edwardian period when the village became a popular holiday destination for many of the great and the good of their day. As a result, even today the village carries an air of gentility and quiet style which visitors find very appealing.
The village of Overstrand is located in the centre of an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The breathtaking views and idyllic country scenes can be found all around Overstrand.
Being situated in north Norfolk, Overstrand is only 2 miles from the ever-popular seaside town of Cromer, with its expansive beaches, shops, cafes and restaurants.
