Today, following painstaking conversion and conservation work, this charming building provides accommodation of a quite different, rather more luxurious kind – for up to four people.

In the same ‘horseshoe’ group of brick and cobblestone cottages as The Tractor House and The Pigsty is The Cow Byre.

Designed by a local architect, the building is both comfortable and relaxing, with a wealth of period features. The careful conversion work, by two experienced local craftsmen – a builder and a carpenter, both of whom were brought up in the village and still live there – has been skilfully carried out.

The Cow Byre, East Runton, Norfolk

The standard of finish throughout is extremely high – reflected in features such as glazed wall tiles, kitchen appliances (cooker, hob, dishwasher and microwave) by Bosch, heated stainless steel towel rails and a Sony television with Freeview and a DVD player. The furniture by Kerri’s Pine, of nearby Reepham, is handmade.

Just like its neighbouring cottages (The Pigsty and The Tractor House), The Cow Byre has soft cream walls, wooden flooring, plenty of light – and central heating throughout.

In the past… The Cow Byre is where our cows lived and were hand milked. However, when the next generation changed to keeping pigs it was converted to house the sows and piglets.”
