Multiple WINNER of Norfolk’s Best Large Attraction (EDP Norfolk Tourism Awards)
Since the park was developed in the 1980s, it has evolved into a beautiful countryside paradise, packed with flora and fauna, where you can easily spend the whole day. Pensthorpe shot to fame during 2008-10 when it was the location for BBC Springwatch. It’s now an internationally recognised breeding site for a multitude of species.
The park offers nature trails and walks, plus the chance to climb aboard the Wensum Discovery Tour which will transport you around the park and provide an informative commentary.
The Millennium Garden offers a gorgeous display of flowers and ornamental grasses in a tranquil setting. The garden was designed by Piet Oudolf, who previously won a Gold medal and Best of Show at The Chelsea Flower Show.
More recently, there’s been the addition of the WildRootz outdoor play area and the Hootz House indoor play area. These offer hours of fun for youngsters and lots of exercise! Kids will love it here.
We recommend visiting their website (and their Wikipedia page) to read all about the history and composition of the park before you visit; this will help you to enjoy your visit, get the most of it and to understand how this amazing place came to be. As with most outdoor experiences, prevailing weather conditions will make a big difference.
Pensthorpe Natural Park offers one of the best days out in Norfolk and will suit adults and children alike. If you’re a photographer, it’s the perfect place to enjoy your hobby or practice your skills. And, best of all, it’s one of the best ways to get close to nature. If you haven’t visited yet, make sure you do!
There’s an impressive on-site cafe and gift shop. And during the year, there are always lots of interesting special events taking place. The spectacular bird feed at 4pm is very popular.
